M-SNAP is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit serving Monongalia County, WV.
Our Mission
The M-SNAP mission is to make spay/neuter the most common solution to reducing the number of unwanted, abandoned, stray, and feral animals, thereby eliminating euthanasia as a necessary means of pet population control in Monongalia County, WV. We target one of the main obstacles to fixing cats and dogs—the expense—through our voucher program. We also work to raise awareness in the community about pet overpopulation.
History and Operation
The M-SNAP policy for reducing pet overpopulation, agreed to by all members in 2008, is that we will send vouchers to residents in need until our funds are exhausted. During periods when we have no money, we will maintain a wait list and resume distribution of vouchers when new funds become available. M-SNAP members support the philosophy that money in the bank serves no good purpose while homeless, innocent pets continue to be killed in Monongalia County.
M-SNAP began in January 2008, mailed its first voucher in October 2008, and received its 501(c)(3) status in March 2009. In 2023, our volunteers had paid over $1M for surgeries to spay and neuter dogs and cats, reducing the number of homeless, unwanted animals being euthanized in Monongalia County. We celebrate this everyday!
